Dr Kate Cook reports on the BBC show: Further back in time for dinner – featuring Dr Helen Pankhurst

I watched some episodes of this show tonight on BBC iplayer.  I don’t know if you have seen it before, but it involves a modern family being taken back through time to experience the living conditions and food of different eras.  The current series started at 1900 and the second episode, 1910-1919 included a short section on the Suffragettes. The women and girl actresses got to wear “Votes for Women” sashes, eat suffragette vegetarian food and meet the lovely Dr Helen Pankhurst.  As an amateur historian I find this show interesting anyway, but I do recommend that anyone who is interested in the suffragettes has a look at this episode for an deeper insight into their world.
